Asthma - Causes, Symptions, Remedies and Preventions

Sometimes, the symptoms flare up for no obvious reason, but you may notice certain triggers that set off an asthma attack or make your symptoms worse. These triggers irritate the airways in your lungs and can include:
 
 
  • Infections such as colds and flu
  • Irritants such as dust, cigarette smoke, fumes
  • Chemicals found in the workplace - this is called occupational asthma
  • Allergies to pollen, medicines, animals, house dust mite or certain foods exercise - especially in cold, dry air
  • Emotions - laughing or crying very hard can trigger symptoms, as can stress
Factors thought to affect your risk of developing asthma include those listed below.

Asthma symptoms may be mild, moderate or severe. They may include:

  • coughing

  • shortness of breath
  • tightness in your chest
  • These symptoms tend to be variable and may stop and start. They are usually worse at night

Asthma Home Remedies :

Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 are very important nutrients to treat asthma decreasing the inflammation in the lungs.

Vitamin C Is needed to fight infection, increase the amount of oxygen and reduce inflammation.

Use ginkgo biloba, this herb contains ginkgolide B which is very helpful. Some studies indicate that ginkgo biloba reduces the frequency of asthma attacks.

Mullein oil is used to fight respiratory congestion, is very important to make it as a tea for faster results.

Pau d'arco is a natural antibiotic and reduces inflammation.

In china a powerful mixture of herbs called Shuan Huang Lian is being used in hospitals to treat respiratory illness, very important to use this herb in asthma and acute bronchitis.

If exercise triggers asthma attacks, cut back the amount of salt in your diet and take 2,000 mg. of Vitamin C one hour before your workout.

Eat salmon 3 times a week and take salmon oil capsules.

Drink coffee and Soft drinks with caffeine (colas), caffeine dilates the bronchial airways.

Make a tea using:
2 tsp. powdered Indian root.
2 tsp. granulated echinacea root.
2 tsp. elecampane root.
2 cups of water.

Aurvedic Remedy

  • Take a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice mixed with a cup of fenugreek decoction and honey to taste. This mixture acts as a excellent expectorant in the treatment of asthma.
  • Take 1 tsp honey and ½ tsp cinnamon powder and mix them well before consuming.
  • For people who are in their early stages of asthma, a perfect home remedy is to boil 8-10 cloves of garlic in ½ cup of milk and consume it during nighttime.
  • Take very hot water and add a tsp of honey in it. Consume it just before sleeping and take small sips.
  • In 1 cup of water soak 1 tsp of Fenugreek seeds overnight. Strain. Add 1 tsp of Ginger juice and 1 tsp of honey to this. It has to be consumed twice during morning as well as evening.

 

Asthma Preventions :

For Asthma preventions these steps are aimed at controlling the most common allergens that can trigger an acute attack.

  • Get rid of dust collectors, including heavy drapes, carpeting, & stuffed animals.
  • Control cockroaches with insect sprays and roach traps, as cockroach allergens are a very common asthma and allergy trigger.
  • Use an airtight, allergy-proof plastic cover on all mattresses and pillows.
  • Wash all bedding and stuffed animals in hot water every 7-14 days.
  • If you must keep pets in the house, at least keep them out of your child's bedroom and choose pets without fur or feathers (such as fish).
  • Avoid exposing your child to molds by keeping them away from damp basements, water-damaged areas of the house, wet leaves or garden debris.
  • Keep indoor humidity low (less than 50%), since dust mites and mold increase in high humidity.
  • Provide a smoke-free environment for your child (it is not enough to smoke outside).
  • Vacuum frequently, but only when your child is not at home.
  • Avoid the use of ceiling fans.
  • Cover air vents with filters.
  • Avoid allowing strong odors and sprays in the home. Do not allow your child to stay at home if it is being painted, avoid using strong perfumes, or room deodorizers and household cleaning products that have a strong odor.
  • For seasonal problems, keep windows closed in the car and home to avoid exposure to pollens and use air conditioning instead. Stay indoors during the midday and afternoon when pollen counts are at their highest.
  • Avoid being outside on days when pollution or ozone counts are high.
  • Consider using a HEPA filter to control airborne allergens.
  • Take any allergy medication that have been prescribed on a daily basis, since uncontrolled allergies can make your symptoms worse.
